1/10/2025: 2017 to 2020 Bruno Clavelier Village and Premier Crus | The Master Geologist

In the hallowed village of Vosne-Romanee, where names like Romanée-Conti and La Tache define the pinnacle of Pinot Noir, Bruno Clavelier stands apart as a quiet visionary. His Domaine, though not as ancient as some of its neighbors, has rapidly become a reference point for Burgundy purists seeking wines of crystalline purity, mineral drive, and profound terroir expression. Clavelier’s philosophy is not one of power or opulence, but of precision and translation. He strives to let the unique voice of each vineyard sing through the wine.

A pivotal moment in Clavelier’s journey was his deep dive into the geological concept of terroir. He became a passionate student of this work, and this led Clavelier to a revolutionary understanding: His understanding of this geological concept, is a key source of the intense energy, spice, and complexity found in his best wines.

This geological insight, forms a viticulture and vinification that is meticulously non-interventionist. Clavelier farms his old vines (many over 60 years old) organically, with extremely low yields that concentrate flavor. In the cellar, he is a minimalist. He employs whole-cluster fermentation for structure and complexity, uses indigenous yeasts, and avoids aggressive punch-downs, preferring gentle pump-overs to extract only the finest tannins. The wines are then aged in French oak barrels (low percentage of new oak, around 20-30%) to preserve the fruit's integrity and the terroir's signature.

The result is a portfolio of wines that are often described as elegant, intense, and aromatically dazzling. From his vibrant Vosne-Romanee "Les Hautes Maizieres" to his monumental Premier Crus like "Les Beaux Monts", a common thread runs through them all: a stunning silkiness of texture, a core of vibrant red and dark fruit, and a profound, stony minerality that lingers on the finish. Bruno Clavelier may not be the loudest voice in Burgundy, but for those who listen closely, his wines speak with an eloquence and clarity that is unforgettable.

Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru, Les Noirots Vieilles Vignes

Situated in a cooler, flatter part of the appellation near Morey-Saint-Denis, Les Noirots offers a more robust and structured expression of Chambolle. In Clavelier's hands, from old vines, this wine often shows a darker, earthier profile compared to its ethereal peers. It's a powerful, somber, and complex Chambolle that speaks of the forest floor.

Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru, La Combe d'Orveaux Vieilles Vignes

This vineyard is a hidden gem, tucked into a cool side-valley that brings exceptional finesse. Clavelier's old vines produce a wine that is the epitome of aerial, perfumed Chambolle. It is consistently elegant, silky and precise, with a racy acidity and a delicate, mineral-driven finish. This is a quintessential "iron fist in a velvet glove."

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru, Les Corbeaux

Bordering the Grand cru Mazis-Chambertin, Les Corbeaux lives up to Gevrey's reputation for power and structure. The name hints at a darker, earthier character. Clavelier's version captures this classicism, offering aromas of dark cherry, cassis, raw cocoa, and a distinctive sauvage, earthy note. It is a wine of muscle and depth, with a firm tannic backbone that demands cellaring to reveal its full, brooding complexity.

Vosne-Romanee Les Hautes Maizieres Vieilles Vignes

Though technically a village-level wine, this plot from the high-slope ("Hautes") consistently performs like a Premier Cru. The altitude and old vines combine to create a wine of exceptional energy and mineral drive. It is a more refined and vertical style of Vosne. It is a brilliant introduction to the Clavelier style: pure, precise, and over-delivering for its appellation.

Vosne-Romanee La Combe Brulees Vieilles Vignes

The 85-year-old old vines of La Combe-Brulee (52 ares) produce a complex wine.  Located in a small enclosed valley, the slow grape-ripening, influenced by a unique microclimate, combines coolness from the combe's bottom and warmth from the slope stones. The limestone-chert soil contributes to the cuvée's often-present smoky and flinty notes.

Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru, Les Beaux Monts Vieilles Vignes

A majestic, sun-exposed Premier Cru on the border with Nuits-Saint-Georges. Les Beaux Monts produces wines of breadth and grandeur. Clavelier's old-vine rendition is a quintessential Vosne of perfume and silk. It is expansive and layered. The palate is both powerful and refined, with a velvety texture and a long, penetrating finish that embodies aristocratic elegance.

It's approachable yet complex, bursting with vibrant red and black fruit, subtle spice, and a silky texture. Experience the signature Angelus brilliance in a wonderfully drinkable style.

Hosanna | Pomerol

A Pomerol of profound depth and soul-stirring beauty, Hosanna is consistently among the appellation's most sought-after treasures. From the team behind Lafleur-Pétrus, it combines power with incredible perfume, offering layers of plum, truffle, and violets. This is a decadent, sensuous wine that defines the magic of Pomerol's finest.

This is a wine of thrilling intensity and rustic charm, packed with dark, brooding fruit, garrigue, and a structured, powerful finish. For those seeking a bold, characterful alternative to the mainstream.

13/11/2025: Irresistible Offers of 2009 and 2010 Bordeaux Classified Growths | The Perfect 2009 Latour

To speak of the 2009 and 2010 vintages from the classified growths of Bordeaux is to discuss one of the most remarkable diptychs in the region’s long history. These two consecutive years, standing shoulder-to-shoulder, represent a modern golden age, a pair of vintages that are both legendary yet fundamentally different in character. They are two sides of the same magnificent coin, offering a masterclass in how contrasting climatic conditions can produce equally profound, yet distinct, expressions of terroir.

The 2009 vintage was, from its inception, blessed by the gods. The growing season was one of near-perfect conditions, characterised by a warm, dry summer without the scorching heatwaves that can stress the vines. This idyllic weather continued through a serene September, allowing for a long, unhurried harvest under sunny skies. The result was a vintage of unprecedented ripeness and opulence. The wines of 2009 are, in a word, sumptuous. A core of plush, sun-kissed fruits, the tannins are abundant, yet they are so incredibly soft and rounded. This is a vintage of appeal and hedonistic pleasure, yet it possesses a hidden structure that promises extraordinary longevity. It is a vintage that speaks of the sun, a generous gift from nature that produced wines of breathtaking charm. The Left Bank wines are powerful yet polished, while the Right Bank achieved a level of Merlot perfection with its fleshy, succulent textures.

If 2009 was a gift of the sun, 2010 was a triumph of the vine and the vignerons. The growing season was more complex, with a cooler, drier summer than 2009, followed by a period of heat and, crucially, cool dry nights in late August and September. This temperature variation was the key to the vintage’s greatness. It allowed the grapes to achieve full phenolic ripeness while retaining vital acidity. The 2010 wines are the intellectual counterpoint to the sensual 2009. They are wines of immense power, structure, and classical precision. The fruit profile is more focused, supported by a vibrant, linear acidity. The tannins are bold, dense, and architectural, forming a formidable backbone that encourages cellaring. This is a vintage built for the ages, requires patience to reveal its profound depth and complexity. Where 2009 is a warm embrace, 2010 is a firm handshake, a wine of rigour, intensity, and breathtaking potential.

The Flawless 2009 Chateau Latour

Among the constellation of stellar wines produced in the 2009 vintage, one star shines with particular brilliance: Chateau Latour. This First Growth from Pauillac is often described as the most profound and long-lived of its peers, and its 2009 iteration is a wine of such perfect poise and power that it can rightly be called legendary.

From the moment it was bottled, the 2009 Latour presented an almost impossible harmony. It captures the sun-drenched opulence of the vintage without sacrificing any of the Chateau's classicism and iron-fisted structure. The nose is an incredibly complex tapestry of aromas, signature of its great terroir. On the palate, it is a wine of breathtaking scale and seamless texture. The fruit is dense and profound. The tannins, while immense, are so finely polished and integrated that they provide a framework of pure velvet rather than grit. It possesses a vibrant, hidden acidity that carries the fruit across the palate with incredible length and focus, culminating in a finish that lasts minutes. Tasting it is a humbling experience; it is a wine that is both immensely powerful and utterly graceful. The 2009 Latour is built for eternity, a timeless masterpiece that will continue to evolve and mesmerize for half a century or more. It is, in every sense, the perfect wine.

A cooler, longer growing season resulted in a Sassicaia of breathtaking elegance and aromatic complexity, with a distinct stony minerality. It is not powerful like the 2015, and its balance, persistence, and refined structure are a masterclass in understated power. This is a Sassicaia that will continue to unfold and mesmerize for years.

Sassicaia 2010: The 2010 Sassicaia is the complete package: profound depth, electrifying acidity, and tannins that are both robust and firm. The 2015 Chateau Pichon Baron stands as a monumental testament to the greatness of its vintage, a year hailed across Pauillac and the Left Bank as truly exceptional. 27/11/2025: Rare 6 Bottles only: 2006 Sassicaia with Perfect Provenance

The 2006 vintage of Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia stands as a monumental release, a wine that perfectly encapsulates the estate's philosophy and the unique character of an exceptional year. A 2006 growing season in Bolgheri was near-perfect, creating the ideal conditions for a classic Sassicaia. It was a year of balance: a warm, dry summer allowed for optimal ripening of the grapes, while crucial temperature swings between day and night in late summer preserved vital acidity. This combination resulted in grapes with intense concentration and powerful structure, balanced by a fresh, aromatic complexity. Unlike the scorching 2003, 2006 offered a longer, more gradual ripening period, leading to greater finesse and aging potential.

In the glass, the 2006 Sassicaia is a profound expression of power and elegance. It presents a deep ruby core and opens with a complex bouquet. On the palate, it is full-bodied and remarkably structured, with firm yet refined tannins that provide a solid backbone, supported by a vibrant acidity that leads to a long, persistent finish.

Now with significant bottle age, the 2006 has fully blossomed from a powerful primary wine into a sophisticated and harmonious masterpiece. It offers a drinking experience that is both profound and deeply rewarding. For any Super Tuscan purist, the 2006 Sassicaia deserves to be in your collection.

1/12/2025: Offers from Four Regions: A. Conterno | Maison Leroy | JL Chave | Les Forts de Latour

In the hallowed hills of Monforte d’Alba, Poderi Aldo Conterno has long been a benchmark for traditional Barolo. However, recent viticulture has seen a thoughtful evolution. While maintaining deep respect for heritage, the estate is increasingly attentive to organic practices and vineyard biodiversity. A focus on soil health through natural cover crops enhances resilience and expresses the unique character of each cru, like Cicala and Colonnello. This careful, adaptive approach in the vineyard ensures that Aldo Conterno's wines continue to achieve a perfect balance of power and elegance, reflecting their terroir with purity and precision.

Maison Leroy is the standard-bearer for uncompromising quality in Burgundy, driven by the legendary biodynamic viticulture championed by Lalou Bize-Leroy. Their practices, far from being a recent adoption, have been firmly in place for decades, making them pioneers. The focus remains on creating a self-sustaining, living ecosystem in every vineyard they own. Treatments are exclusively with herbal infusions and preparations, and work is timed to the lunar calendar. This extreme, non-interventionist approach forces the vines to dig deep roots, resulting in minuscule yields of intensely concentrated fruit. In an era of climate change, these deeply rooted, resilient vines produce wines of astonishing energy, longevity, and terroir transparency.

For the Chave family, greatness is forged in the vineyard. On the steep, granite slopes of Hermitage, The Chaves employ viticulture that is both ancient and modern. The estate has always been farmed traditionally, but recent years have seen a deepening commitment to organic and biodynamic principles. This is not a new trend but a logical extension of their philosophy. Meticulous plot-by-plot management is key; each small parcel of Syrah and Marsanne is harvested at optimal ripeness. In response to climatic shifts, they have increased plant density and focus on soil vitality to combat hydric stress. The result is wines of unparalleled complexity, seamlessly blending power with a captivating, mineral-driven freshness.

As the esteemed second wine of Chateau Latour, Les Forts de Latour benefits directly from the First Growth's relentless pursuit of perfection. Viticulture at the estate has seen significant evolution, with a complete transition to organic farming certified in 2021. This shift, coupled with meticulous plot selection, is crucial for Les Forts. Agronomic techniques focus on soil health and biodiversity to better express the Pauillac terroir. In recent vintages, this sustainable rigor has enhanced the wine's structure and aromatic purity, allowing Les Forts de Latour to consistently deliver a wine of exceptional class and aging potential that truly reflects its illustrious origins.

4/12/2025: Comte Liger Belair Village and Premier Crus from 2008 to 2014 | +Rare 2003 La Romanee

The Majesty of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is a study in purity and precision In the hallowed halls of Burgundy, where history is measured in centuries and greatness in microns, few names command the reverence of Comte Liger-Belair. This is a Domaine that doesn't simply make wine; it curates a legacy, bottle by bottle, from some of the most precious parcels in Vosne-Romanee. Since Louis-Michel reassembled the family estate in 2000, the wines have soared to iconic status, representing a pinnacle of purity, elegance, and terroir expression.

The philosophy here is one of profound respect. In the vineyard, biodynamic practices nurture the life of the soil. In the cellar, a gentle, non-interventionist approach allows each climat to speak with its own unique voice. The result is a portfolio of wines that are not so much made as they are guided into being—translucent, aromatic, and hauntingly beautiful. Today, we have the privilege of offering a selection from this legendary estate, a journey through Vosne-Romanee and beyond that showcases the breathtaking range of this masterful winemaker. This is a rare opportunity to acquire back vintage bottlings of Comte Liger Belair.

Vosne-Romanee: The entry point to the Liger-Belair universe is anything but simple. This village wine is a masterful blend of several parcels, offering a stunning introduction to the Domaine's style. Silky and immediate, yet with a underlying structure that promises elegant evolution. It is the quintessential Burgundy, rendered with breathtaking purity.

Vosne-Romanee La Colombiere: From a unique parcel nestled just below the famed La Tache, La Colombière is a wine of singular charm. Its limestone-rich soil, strewn with white oolite, gives a wine of dazzling energy and minerality. Often more floral and red-fruited than the broader village wine, it is a precise, vibrant, and utterly delicious expression that over-delivers immensely for its appellation.

Vosne-Romanee Clos du Chateau Monopole: The Beating Heart of the Domaine. This is the historic soul of the estate, a walled, 1.7-hectare Monopole encircling the Chateau itself. Once part of the Romanee-Conti climat, its heritage is profound. The wine is a study in aristocratic poise. It possesses a deeper, more brooding fruit character than the other village wines, with notes of wild strawberry, earth, and a captivating floral lift. It consistently performs at a Premier Cru level, offering a glimpse of Grand Cru depth and complexity.

Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Cras: A brilliant exception that proves the rule of Liger-Belair's Vosne-centric focus. Sited on the Vosne border, Les Cras is a steep, stony vineyard whose wines share more in common with their northern neighbours than the powerful Nuits norm. Here, we find a thrilling tension between the dark, mineral-driven character of Nuits and the perfumed elegance of Vosne. A wine of structure, spice, and remarkable finesse.

Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Chaumes: Situated at the foot of the Grand Crus, Les Chaumes produces wines of sumptuous, open-knit charm. The clay-rich soils give a wine that is plush, round, and immediately seductive.

Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Aux Reignots: From one of the most revered Premier Crus in Vosne, Aux Reignots sits on a steep slope above La Romanee. This is a wine of intense power and mineral drive. It trades the opulence of Les Chaumes for a more structured, linear profile. With its iron-like minerality, and formidable structure, this is a wine that is almost Grand Cru stature.

Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Petits Monts: Perched high on the slope, rivaling Richebourg for altitude, Les Petits Monts is a wine of airiness and grace. The thin, stony soil produces a wine of exceptional aromatic complexity and filigree texture. It is often described as the most elegant of the Liger-Belair Premier Crus, offering breathtaking precision and lift.

The market for these cornerstone vintages has only moved in one direction: up. Availability has only moved in one direction: down. What remains in the market today is the finite conclusion of a legendary era.
