25/6/2024: The BIGGEST Piedmont List to Close June | with New Assortments and Repost
Piedmont is a region renowned for its rich wine-making tradition and indigenous grape varieties: Dolcetto, Barbera, Barolo (Nebbiolo) brings uniqueness to this region. Each of these offers a unique expression of their terroir, showcasing the region's commitment to quality and tradition.
Dolcetto is a wine often enjoyed young and offers a softer, fruitier profile compared to the other more robust Piedmontese reds. Dolcetto's by renowned producer are often overlooked as wines that need to be drunk young; but my personal experiences with some of them are different. When aged over ten years, they are still holding well.
Barbera is one of Piedmont's most planted grape varieties. This is a wine that has varying potential, and a versatile wine. From light and fruity to rich and complex, it really depends on the producer you are following. Nonetheless, they are vibrant, food-friendly, and age effortlessly. Gaining complexity and depth, while their tannins soften, are part and parcel in the blooming life of a Barbera. For the Barbera d'Alba, they are potentially one of the best you can get.
Barolo needs no further introduction. These Nebbiolo thrives in clay and limestone, and is renowned for its structure, tannins, and significant aging potential. Young Barolos are robust, with typical aromas of tar, roses, cherries, and truffles. As they age, complex tertiary notes of tobacco, dried fruits, and leather, makes it elegant and refined. Between Traditionalist, Modernist, and Hybrids (combination of both traditional and modern techniques), most of the producers are committed in making good wines. To understand a producer's style, try the young vines (Nebbiolo) bottling, before moving to their Barolos. You might discover the "right camp" your palate brings you.
Today, we have a HUGE list of Piedmont wines, to close our June offers. Along with these, will be more assortments from all around the world, including Rhone, Rioja, Australia and Bordeaux. Some of them might be reposts but they are now, with lowered prices, so don't miss them. Have a great Tuesday......RS

The 2015 harvest vintage for Comte Liger-Belair in Burgundy is widely regarded as one of exceptional quality, marked by favorable weather conditions and producing wines of remarkable depth, concentration, and balance. The spring was warm, which set the stage for a healthy crop. Summer was hot and dry, with just enough rain to prevent water stress in the vineyards. This combination of factors led to an even ripening process, ensuring that the grapes reached optimal maturity with balanced sugar levels and acidity.
The harvest for Comte Liger-Belair began in a period noted for its perfect weather. The fruit was exceptionally healthy, with thick skins, which contributed to the rich structure of the wines. 28/5/2024: A Small 2020 Bordeaux Collection | Other Assortments with Lower Prices Now
The 2020 Bordeaux vintage is a testament to resilience and excellence, encapsulating the region's tradition and the challenges posed by a tumultuous year. The 2020 vintage, marked by a confluence of climatic adversity and the global COVID-19 pandemic, stands out as a beacon of the region’s adaptability and enduring quality.
2020 growing season in Bordeaux was a roller-coaster of weather conditions. The year began with a mild and wet winter, which transitioned into a warm and early spring. This early warmth accelerated bud break. In the early part of the growing season, there were also substantial rainfall, leading to concerns about mildew. As the season progressed, the summer months brought a stark contrast with their hot and dry conditions. July and August were particularly dry, with some regions experiencing drought-like conditions. These climatic extremes required meticulous vineyard management, with vintners having to balance the need for water conservation against the health and ripening of the vines. The challenges were compounded by the necessity to implement strict health protocols due to the pandemic, which affected labor availability and operations in the vineyards and wineries.
Despite these hurdles, the harvest was largely favorable. September provided a reprieve with more balanced weather, including cooler nights that helped preserve acidity in the grapes. The key to success in 2020 was precise timing, ensuring that each varietal was picked at its optimal ripeness. The small, concentrated berries, a result of the dry summer, led to wines with intense flavors, vibrant color, and firm tannins. The reduced berry size also contributed to a lower juice-to-skin ratio, which is crucial for producing rich, full-bodied wines. Reds from both the Left and Right Banks showcase a remarkable depth of flavor and structure. The Left Bank wines, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, exhibit robust tannic profiles, with dark fruit notes, hints of graphite, and significant aging potential. The Right Bank wines, dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Franc, are plush and aromatic, with ripe red fruit, floral undertones, and a harmonious finish.
As these wines continue to develop in bottle, they are expected to gain even more complexity. The 2020 vintage, though born of a challenging year, stands as a testament to Bordeaux’s enduring legacy of producing world-class wines. In conclusion, the 2020 Bordeaux vintage is a remarkable chapter in the region’s history. It highlights not only the exceptional quality of the wines produced but also the resilience and expertise of Bordeaux’s winemakers.

11/4/2024: New World Wines Take Center Stage Today | Other Assortments from Spain Italy and France
In today's list of offers, New World Wines take center stage, as these trophy wines from South America, California, Australia and New Zealand showcase their prowess. A question we constantly ask: is it a fair comparison of wines, between new and old world? I think in general, there are many factors that can contribute to comparing wines between these two worlds.
History is the first factor when looking at old world wines, and most old world winemakers have a long tradition of wine-making, going back to centuries. While new world wines have a relatively short history, winemakers native to New World Wine regions, do not have the comfort and guidance of historic family wine-making legacy or heritage. They rely on understudying different wine-making regions around the world to gain experiences. In today's world of wines, old world winemakers are also bringing innovative techniques into the New World, experimenting in new regions wherever possible. The exchange of wine-making techniques are simply incredible.
Terroir is always associated with Old World Wines, and are being prioritized. It is all they know, for expressing the identity of place....However, New World winemakers had taken terroir seriously since the 2000s, and there are more expression of "terroiristic" wines coming out from New World Wine region nowadays. The diverse terroir in a single New World region, can also create different styles coming from one place. Terroir today, is no longer unacquainted with the New World.
Grape varieties, I always thought is a very subjective factor. From the Old World, vines had been planted historically from years to decades, and they had already proved what are the best varieties for planting in each commune. This is not the case for some New World wines. For example: in California, more than half of the Pinot Noir are Volnay or Pommard clones, with more than 10 different root-stocks available for grafting. It took the Cali winemakers a lot of experimenting with clones, in different soil (terroir) to get the best results. Over the decades, from the 80s to 2000s, through testings, the best results could be determined in a span of years to decade. I consider this a short period to get to where we are today with Californian wines. In New Zealand, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc reigns as the most popular varieties, surely something had clicked.
Wine-making techniques, I think is a HUGE factor in contribution to making a great wine, whether New or Old World. Modern techniques may be implemented by winemakers in both New and Old world; but today, innovation is key to success. Again, going back to the History factor: I think when Old World winemakers travel around the world to make wine in the New World, it helps them understand all the different factors that can make or break a wine. Stepping out of their comfort zone is a challenge many are willing to take today.
With all those factors mentioned, today's listings of New World wines, are a testament of successful New World Winemakers and wine-making. These wines are taking center stage today, considering how excellent most of them are. Along with the list of New World wines, will be a decent collection of Old World Wines, from Spain, Italy and France. 5/4/2024: Latest Vintage 2021 Screaming Eagle in a 3-bot OWC | Accepting one order via email
The 2021 growing season for Screaming Eagle was characterized by near-perfect weather conditions, providing its winemaker with the ideal canvas on which to craft their wines. A mild spring and early summer, followed by a warm and dry harvest season, allowed grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, resulting in excellent flavor development and optimal sugar levels. Abundant sunshine and cool evening breezes further enhanced the quality of the fruit, contributing to wines of exceptional balance and complexity. The 2021 vintage has showcased the full spectrum of their wine-making prowess.
The release of a new vintage from Screaming Eagle is always cause for celebration, and the 2021 offering was a highly anticipated one. One can be easily struck by its vibrant crimson hue and seductive aromatics, and a finish that lingers long after the final sip. Ratings are not available at this time of publish, but expect another PERFECT wine by Screaming Eagle!
Today on marketplace, Wine Bond is delighted to offer an OWC of the new vintage release: 2021 Screaming Eagle. These 3 bottles come in an OWC, direct from SE to a private collector here. We will accept one order via email only. Don't miss the offer today!.......RS
3/4/2024: April is here: Bordeaux | Rest of the World
It is amazing how Bordeaux wines have performed in the last decade of vintages that had supported strong releases for their En Primeur campaigns. Other than 2013 and 2021, which were in fact challenging vintages (due to frost, mildew or excessive rain), almost all the other vintages between 2013 to 2023 were promising, led by favorable weather conditions and skilled wine-making. Prices of EP releases were also stable, without the example of price spikes (like 2005). It is almost a perfect Bordeaux world for Bordeaux wine lovers, in fact I think a lot of drinkers are lured back to collecting and drinking Bordeaux wines after sidetracking to other regions, be it other New or Old World wines. Is it time to return to Bordeaux? Yea, why not.
Even though I love Burgundy, I always envision myself drinking more Bordeaux wines eventually, after seeing Burgundy (of renowned producers), their prices soar in astronomical percentages after release. True, there are also new, up&coming Burgundy producers making affordable wines, but it will take years to understand their wines through the vintages, before one can finally pinpoint to a favorite commune. Bordeaux Chateaus on the other hand, have created wines that are stable, within expectations of one's understanding in the style of the Chateau, and made prices friendly. Some call it boring, some call it consistency. I call it enjoyment as long as you know what you are following. For example, my favorite Chateau today, remains Chateau Malescot-St-Exupery from Margaux.
Today's big Bordeaux offers come in amazing prices, some very drinkable wines, an assortment of vintages of young and old. There is certainly a wine that will fit someone's preference in these Classified Growths, so scroll through to find your favorites. From the other wine-making regions, specifically from Australia: four listings of Greenock Creek Roennfeldt Road Cabernet and Shiraz, a rare Henschke Hill of Grace, a Standish Relic. Then a few assortments from Spain and Italy close the offers. There's over Thirty wines on offer from yesterday and today, don't miss any of them, and have a great midweek!......RS
2/4/2024: April is here: Burgundy | Champagne | German Riesling
April is here and a couple of rare Burgundy bottles, along with some Champagnes and German Rieslings will kick start this month's offers.
Rare bottles from top producers (Burgundy) are hard to come by nowadays, especially when marketplace is more of a brokering platform and relies on current trend of prices. The dip of fine wines prices over the last few months has not been favorable to some collectors here. On the other hand, for a few collectors whom get yearly allocation of rare bottles, it may not make a lot of difference since the "En-Primeur" prices are usually friendlier than open market prices. It has been a long while since we saw some rare bottles, and today's offers from Armand Rousseau, Sylvain Cathiard, Lamarche, Olivier Bernstein, will make up the bulk of offers for the Burgundy section, while two vintages of Dom Perignon, a Cristal Rose and some German Rieslings complete them.
By the way, I caught "The Gentlemen" on Netflix (over the long weekend). A great mini-series by Guy Ritchie. it was interesting how they featured the 2002 DRC Romanee-Conti in one of the episodes. (note that while this is a fictitious film, I can understand how they try to emulate all the details of the actual DRC bottle including the colour of the wine). If you had finished watching this English TV series, and paid enough attention to details, I am sure you may have noticed a few scenes of some Bordeaux wines, and an authentic looking wine collection in the basement wine cellar of the Chateau. And by the way, the mention of price for the rare 1945 DRC Romanee-Conti is real (price referenced from a 2018 wine auction). These minor details really make a Wine Connoisseur enjoy the series....and I certainly did.
Back to our offers: The Grand Crus on offers are certainly rare, and they will only be on marketplace for a month. Get them while they are still hot. Also, don't miss our BIG Bordeaux list coming soon. All the wines in both offers come from different collectors here, but they all have impeccable provenance and condition. Don't miss them this week.....RS
